Farah Shakir, DMD MS

Dr. Farah Shakir grew up in Wilmette, Illinois. She attended New Trier High School in Winnetka. She completed her B.S. in Biology and Neuroscience from the University of Illinois, as well as a Masters degree in Biotechnology from Rush University before matriculating at the University of Illinois where she obtained her dental degree in 2015. While attending dental school, she served as the Chapter President of the American Student Dental Association. She was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer fellowship in 2014. Dr. Shakir received numerous awards including the Robert Savage Award, the American Student Dental Association Award for Excellence, International College of Dentists Humanitarian Award, and the American Academy of Periodontology Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in the field of Periodontics. She received her certificate in Periodontics from the University of Illinois in 2018 and simultaneously completed her Master’s in Oral Science research on Peri-implant disease.
Dr. Shakir is passionate about health, education and community service. She loves to tailor her treatment to fit her patient’s needs. She performs non-surgical periodontal services to surgical serves, such as bone augmentation, implant therapy, extraction, and soft tissue treatment. She is up to date with the latest therapies and continues to seek continual education. She is certified to perform IV conscious sedation.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, working out, and socializing with friends, family. She is fluent in Arabic and Spanish.
She loves exploring Chicago and currently resides in Lincoln Park with her husband.
Dr. Shakir is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry.
